Common Core. Not so scary…

Published by Adminidon on

As a mathematics teacher educator I get asked a lot of questions about the Common Core and usually the questions I get are concerning the half truths (or non-truths) being spread by media outlets.  Here are three things I suggest for those wanting to know more about the Common Core State Standards for Mathematics (CCSS-M):

1) Look at the document.  Seriously.  Click here to be taken to a pdf copy of the CCSS-M.  More specifically, look at the Standards for Mathematical Practice and the Overview pages for each grade level (K-8) and strand (High School).

2) Watch this video by the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics (NCTM)

3) Watch this video Three-Minute Video Explaining the Common Core State Standards by the Council of Great City Schools (CGCS).

Now, lets talk about the CCSS-M.
