Creating Space for Progressive Teaching of Mathematics

This weekend is the Fall Conference of the Mississippi Council of Teachers of Mathematics (MCTM) which is the state affiliate of the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics (NCTM).  This is my third year speaking at the conference and every year I have been impressed by the representation of Mississippi’s institutions of higher learning and the state’s districts and teachers.  It truly is an opportunity for the state’s stakeholders to come together and share best practices and the current status of mathematics education in Mississippi.

My presentation this year is about a NCTM Mathematics Education Trust grant that I received last spring with two classroom teachers.  The grant is being used to support the improvement of practice within their respective Algebra 1 classrooms.  Already I have been impressed by the development of both teachers and am excited to share their progress at the conference.  Here is a link to my presentation and the electronic handouts.  Also here is how to cite the presentation:
