Great time at MCTM Fall Conference

Published by Adminidon on

What a great day!  Had a chance to drive to Brandon, MS and participate in the fall conference of the Mississippi Council of Teachers of Mathematics.  I observed Dr. Alice Steimle from the Center for Mathematics and Science Education at Ole Miss demonstrate several tasks that could be implemented in elementary classrooms that address algebraic concepts.

Also saw a presentation on the plan for implementing the Common Core State Standards (CCSS) in Mississippi presented by Associate Superintendent Trecina Green.  An interesting point was that Mississippi is not considering using an integrated approach to the CCSS.  Something that I need to investigate further.

As always, I enjoyed presenting my work.  It is cool to think about how I can continue this work in Mississippi and how it may inform future directions of mathematics education (hopefully).
