Statistics, Probability, Algebra: Nothing but Problems
Today starts the Annual Teacher Conference for the Mississippi Space Grant Consortium, which is hosted by the NASA Mississippi Space Grant Consortium College and Fellowship Program and the Center for Mathematics and Science Education at the University of Mississippi. Teachers from all over the state are gathering at the Inn at Ole Miss to learn about ways to promote STEM education in their classrooms. This year Mary Margaret Boudreaux and I are talking about how to connect probability, statistics and algebra through the use of problems. Not exercises, but problems. It is our belief that we need to expose our students to as many problems as possible so they can exhibit the practices called for in the Common Core State Standards for Mathematics. Below is how to a link to our handouts and how to cite our presentation.
